With Special Introduction to Falling by Writer/Director and star Viggo Mortensen

Northern Irish premiere of Viggo Mortensen's directorial debut.

John lives in California with his partner Eric, and their adopted daughter Monica, far from the traditional rural life he left behind years ago. When his conservative and homophobic father Willis starts to exhibit symptoms of dementia, John brings him west, hoping he and his sister Sarah can help their father find a home closer to them. Their best intentions ultimately run up against Willis’s angry refusal to change his way of life in any way.

In his directorial debut, Viggo Mortensen explores the fractures and contrasts of a contemporary family. Willis’s abrasive nature, by turns caustic and funny, is aggravated by memory loss, bringing past and present into conflict. As father and son finally confront events that have torn them apart, including their differing recollections of John’s mother, we embark on a journey from darkness to light, from rage and resentment to acceptance and hard-won grace.

'As intelligent and sensitive a directing debut as you'd expect, and a highlight of Henriksen's career.' - John DeFore, The Hollywood Reporter

'A beautifully controlled drama about age, memory and forgiveness.' - Steve Pond, The Wrap

'Lance Henriksen gives the performance of his career as an emasculated father facing dementia, but it's writer-director-star Viggo Mortensen who makes the film’s universal themes resonate so strongly.' - Peter Debruge, Variety
