Special Screens: The Shop Around the Corner

Monday 18 Nov 2019 - 12:00pm
Admission:
£2 + Booking Fee

Foyle Film Festival Presents a series of screenings targeted at those living with special needs, such as Dementia, physical and mental challenges, their families and carers.

Films will screen with lights on low level, with no adverts or trailers and the audience will be free to move around, or sing along to any musical number if they so wish. Complimentary tea, coffee and biscuits will be served before the film to give people the chance to meet and socialise, and to familiarise themselves with the venue.

Set in the run-up to Christmas, The Shop Around The Corner concentrates on the conflict (and unknown romance by mail) between long-time assistant manager Alfred Kralik (James Stewart) and confident new employee Klara Novak (Margaret Sullavan). From the beginning, the two are at odds. But as their conflict deepens, their letter romance blossoms.

“(M)ixing smart and sometimes cutting observations about people in their personal and professional lives with sweetly sentimental comedy and romance.” - Owen Van Spall, EyeForFilm *****
