With this beloved classic, John Ford, director of Oscar® winners How Green is My Valley and The Grapes of Wrath returned to his Irish ancestral roots. Starring John Wayne and Maureen O’Hara, The Quiet Man tells the story of a boxer Sean Thornton (John Wayne) who leaves America for Ireland after a fight gone wrong, with the plan to buy his family’s land and live in peace.
However Sean soon runs into the inhabitants of the local community including Will Danaher (Victor McLaglen) who has eyes for the land and his sister Mary Kate (Maureen O’Hara) who he soon begins a romance with. With a charming setting, excellent performances and a cast of sharply written characters, the Quiet Man represents one of the most beloved comedies from the studio era of Hollywood.
Winner of two Oscars®.
