THE RED SHOES
Cert.U/2hrs 13mins
Date: 22/11/2009 2pm
Venue: Orchard Cinema
Director: Michael Powell & Emeric Pressburger, UK

This Powell And Pressburger classic is widely considered
to be one of the greatest films ever made and winner of
two Oscars. It focuses on Vicky, a young ballerina starring
in a ballet The Red Shoes. Like her character in the ballet, she is irresistibly drawn to dancing. Her life becomes split between her simple human passion and artistic devotion to her profession. The film contains ballet sequences of stylistic mastery, and is visually one of the most innovative and beautiful works of cinema ever created. Starring Moira Shearer, Marius Goring, AntonWalbrook and Royal Ballet star Robert Helpmann, who also choreographed The Ballet of The Red Shoes, the music for which was conducted by Sir Thomas Beecham.

The Red Shoes has been restored by UCLA Film & Television Archive in association with The British Film Institute, The Film Foundation, ITV Global Entertainment Ltd., and Janus Films. Restoration funding provided by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, The Film Foundation, and the Louis B. Mayer Foundation.

''Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger created a vision in ''The Red Shoes'' that has really never been matched. Truly the most beautiful technicolour film ever madec If more people watched "art" films, their appetite for big budget blockbusters might change. We can make a difference if we make these films available.'' Martin Scorsese.
