The Nerve Centre   Budweiser Foyle Film Festival

intro letter

Welcome to the 13th Budweiser Foyle Film Festival.

We are delighted to present another fantastic programme of Premiere and Classic films, Masterclasses, Workshops and Special Events for you and your family. Film audiences in the North West have come to expect a festival programme that is both entertaining and challenging and, with what is on offer this year, they will not be disappointed. Since 1999 International entries to the festival competition have increased dramatically. Countries represented include: Australia, France, Germany, Lebanon, Russia, Japan, Israel and America as well as the UK and Ireland. It still holds that Irish films continue to create a stir at International festivals and we are thrilled to be able to present some of the best new Irish Feature and Short Films made this year.

The speed with which each year comes round, definitely increases with age, which is why,for me, the year dragged quite a bit! Within the past twelve months new and exciting associations have developed with regard to the festival. For instance BBC Northern Ireland will host several events in Derry and Belfast for aspiring Television Writers and Filmmakers. The festival will take part in Diversity21 which will celebrate the closing months of the New Millennium with a film tour to Bangor, Downpatrick and Armagh. George Lucas' company are sending another senior animator because Rob Coleman (Star Wars) enjoyed his experience so much in 1999.

It may be that you enjoy a night out after a film and if this is the case then keep an evening free for events at the festival club which takes place at both the Nerve Centre and The Trinity Hotel. There will be lots of prizes, promotions and discounted tickets on offer so keep your eyes peeled because this will be a festival worth waiting a year for. Have a great time!
